Title

A study of higher biological organization by system-wide measurements of their components

Abstract

Distributions of the of number of molecules or cells in biological systems obtained by system-wide measurements may determine their state of higher biological organization—from cells and tissues up to organisms. In order to measure these distributions, we have been developing both a sequencing-based molecular barcoding method which enables digital counting of RNA molecules genome-wide, as well as an automatic cellular barcoding method for counting many cells simultaneously with single cell resolution. I will present these studies and discuss the potential of these omics or system-wide approaches in biological research.
